Title: smax gear selector cable
Post by: rufus on February 07, 2014, 12:02:14 PM
Hi
I recently had the dual mass flywheel and clutch replaced on my 07 plate smax at a cost which made my eyes water. Today (3 weeks later) one of the gear selector cables has snapped and am unable to move the vehicle. The garage that replaced the DMF and clutch have said that this is a common problem on the s-max, and are seeking another chunk of money to replace it. This doesn't seem right to me; its seems too much of a coincidence that the cable would break so soon after it was removed/disturbed when replacing DMF/clutch. Is gear selector cable failure a known common fault on the smax or has this resulted from replacement of DMF/clutch?

Thanks for any help you can give

Rufus

It depends where/how the cable has broken, if it's gone at the gearbox end then there's a chance that whoever took the gearbox out to change the flywheel/clutch damaged it whilst disconnecting it, can you see how it has broken?
