Does it make any difference if you use a 288mm or 300mm diameter front brake disc
Yes, because the disc diameter varies depending on the size of wheels fitted to the vehicle and possibly the power output- if memory serves correctly vehicles with 15" wheels use the smaller discs whilst 16" equipped vehicles use the larger ones. As a consequence of the different disc diameters, at the very least the caliper brackets and quite probably the calipers themselves are different and not interchangeable between the disc sizes.
Then you have to change the callipers and brake pads too as the surface and diameter becomes bigger. And maybe your wheels won't fit then anymore.
Just to confuse the issue ,my early mk2 has 288mm discs with 16" wheels
When i repkaced mine i ended up taking the wheel off an measuring
You ALWAYS change pads if fitting new discs!
288 was fitted right up until 2001, then it was up'd to 300 if you had 16" alloys or stayed at 288 if not.
You can fit 288 or 300 (although your insurance might have something to say about downsizing!) but the calliper, hanger and pads would need to be changed.
