Can you select any gears from cold with the engine running, i.e, does the problem affect all gears or just some of them? If it's all gears then it sounds more like a clutch issue than a gearbox problem.

I tend to agree, sounds like clutch drag. On a level grade with no brakes on, in neutral will it move at all?

BTW your profile is probably wrong, a 2001 is almost certainly a Mk2

Hi Shinoj  welcome5

Does the clutch pedal feel spongy/soft initially if so you may have air in the hydraulic system.
If the pedal is firm throughout the length of travel then the clutch plate is probably sticking on the input shaft splines, this will require removal of the gearbox.
It's possible you will need to replace both the clutch and flywheel assembly

I can select gears in cold without engine running.

I can select gears in cold without the engine running. when engine running from cold will not move to any gear.
