Hi, the glow plug light on my dash has started flashing after a few minutes of driving. Does anyone know what this means?? Thanks
This (https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy-reference-library/galaxy-mk1-mk2-tdi-glow-plug-light-flashing-while-driving/) should give you a starting point, though it could be a problem with engine sensors requiring diagnostics to check stored fault codes that have caused the light to be illuminated.
Is the vehicle running ok, is it losing power etc?
The engine is running fine, but I did have a blown rear light fuse last night and replaced it with another fuse (54 a the one with a pic of aman running away from an alarm) as I didn't have a spare. Have replaced the fuse now but from that link you gave me it seems that it bay be something to do with a stored ecu fault. How do I clear this if this is the case? I have a m vagcom cable and the lite software.
Unfortunately I do not have experience of using VAG-COM so it will require somebody else to chime in with that info!
The diesel glow plug light doubles as an engine management light, a common cause for this is a faulty brake light switch but can also be due to other engine management problem, using VCDS lite to scan your diagnostic's for stored fault codes is the way to go.
As you have the lead you can scan the engine module first and see what codes are stored. (Do not try to use the auto scan function)
If you are unsure how to use VCDS lite then ask on here, you will also find information on the Ross-Tech site
When my glow plug light flashed the cruise control wouldn't work either, and in my case this was down to a faulty brake pedal switch.
But as Chris points out it has double functions.
had this issue on my mk1 1.9 tdi. ended up been a popped brake light bulb. random i know but true lol. ;D
also a duff brake light switch could be the issue too. ;)
