Post by: carlito147 on December 23, 2013, 11:21:26 PM
tried switching relay 109 switch , still doing the same . been a nightmare to start for 9 months . changed glow plugs not that . now , very hard to start then whilst running led light stays on on the door . people are saying one of the fuel pumps ( one in tank one in engine ) could be the fault . its a 2002 1.9tdi galaxy 115 break engine code auy . ant help would be appreciated , cheers !  ;)

The intank pump is energised for a few seconds when first switching on ignition then runs continuously once the engine starts.

You could also remove the outlet pipe from the fuel filter then connect a piece of hose to the filter then put the open end into a jam jar switch on and off the ignition a few times, fuel should be pumped into the jar.

A normal engine start the light would come on solid for a few seconds then go out when engine starts, if the light flashes fast when trying to start either immobiliser is active or power supply to ECU fault which is usually relay 109.

Did you use Vagcom/VCDS when you checked for fault codes previously

If the immobiliser is active you may need to try a spare key if you have one

I know this is an old post, however I had a similar problem. The engine cut out and wouldn't  restart.
No glow plug light and no activity at relay 109.After some investigating myself, purely by accident I discovered a an insecure fuse, the fuse holder wasn't  fully gripping the fuse, rather  confusingly, the fuse, didnt following the fuse card indicate it was anything to  do with the ignition system.it was marked with what I would consider a frost, symbol as Was The adjacent  fuse
