Post by: gregers on December 10, 2013, 09:08:43 PM
i knew my mot was up for renewal soonish,so just checked,IT ran out on the 24/nov  :-[

yes i know its down to me to make sure, but you get reminders for road fund and insurance.
have managed to book a mot for tomorrow late afternoon,
whats the rules on driving it ?
am i correct in thinking only to a pre arranged test?

Correct, only to a pre-booked MoT at a registered garage.

I dunno why they don't as I've also fallen foul to forgetting :(

On a similar note am I the last to find out the tax disc is about to be scrapped? Not the tax itself mind, just the disc!

cheers m8,
r/tax.
i think there reasoning is,that most police cars have a onboard anpr system.
hows that going to work with the traffic Taliban is anyones guess?
i suppose they will be using there radios/mobiles a lot more just to check whether a vehicle is taxed or not.

well ended up having a new exhaust system fitted at 'ats for Ã,£185 the tyres have just over 2mm left.
considering theyve only been on the car for less then a year and done just under 5k miles.to say im bloody annoyed is an understatement.

I had some pirellis that did a similar mileage, I had kuhmos on last time which did 10k and these are avons which are knocking on 12k and still have 3mm on.

yeah thinking of going down the avon's route once crimbo is over and done with.
it looks like my tracking may need looking at as the inside on both seem to be the worse for ware,so it isnt roundabout syndrome, but its ridiculous that this is acceptable for a pair of tyres,i know like yours they are xl tyres, iirc i got around 12-15k out of my cheapo galaxy tyres.

Strange isn't it? I've always been a "brand" man when it comes to tyres but for some bizarre reason the Galaxy is the only car I've ever known that seems to prefers cheepo tyres to something decent! My neighbour had "Sailun Suny Fast" (yes that's spelt right lol) tyres on his Sharan and they did 18K for him!

thats the problem m8 isnt it,you have to compromise cost over comfort over longevity etc.as said b4 i might increse the spending on the next 2 and see how long they last.

Its all a compromise with tyres tbh. I am thinking of dropping back to 17's again this time as the 18's look lovely but the ride is a tad harsh!!

i do find that my 18's tram line a lot more then the missus old smax running 16's.

Can't be bad! My advisories this year were rusty brake discs, a rusty front anti roll bar and a couple of pinholes in the exhaust pipes next to the welds where the pipes go into the silencer boxes which will mean a new exhaust when the spring comes (as long as it doesn't fall off in the meantime!)  ::)

Still, at least this time I know the tester and trust him to do his job, unlike the muppet who did the last MOT!  >:(
