I am trying to retrieve the fault codes from my 2.3L Petrol 04 Mk2 Galaxy without success.
I read here:

.....that for my model, VCDS Lite will read the VW related modules, but that to read the ECU, I need an OBD2 reader
I can read a couple of the VW modules using VCDS lite, although cannot connect to most of them. However, when I connect the OBD2 reader, it cannot link. Also, when I run the VCDS lite OBD2 connection test, it tells me that my vehicle is not OBD2 compliant.
So I am at a loss. Apparently I need an OBD2 reader to get the fault codes from the ECU, but the (cheap) one I connect cannot read it either. Is there anything I need to do to read the ECU codes apart from connecting the OBD2 reader, or do I need a specific model of reader?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
The Galaxy 2.0 and 2.3 are 100% OBD2 compliant. Try the reader on another car just to check it works and if it does then you may have an issue with the wiring in your car.
Thank you very much for your replies.
It turns out I had a dodgy relay 30 - a repair to that (blob of solder) meant at least I can start it and it is not intermittently losing power.
I assume this may be why my ECU was not communicating with my fault-code reader? When I get some time over the weekend, I'll plug it in again and see if it's working now.
Many thanks again.
Yup - am now getting fault codes from my OBD2 reader and VCDS lite (for non-ECU modules).
Thanks for your help
