Title: Galaxy Mk3 Front Wheel Bearing
Post by: PhilipJ on December 02, 2013, 05:47:03 PM
Knocking noise from front when driving straight, disappears when braking, rocking car side to side definite knock felt from near side wheel, therefore suspect wheel bearing.
Euro car parts state this is a wheel bearing kit about 126 pounds, is this an easy bolt fit or would this require pressing in and out?

What  mileage are you on? A track rod end would be the most likely as wheel bearings are generally very reliable these days. Most front wheel drive cars have pressed bearings and I suspect the mk3 is no different

I have now ruled out the wheel bearing as with the brake pedal depressed the knock is still apparent, tie rod also seems fine, shaking the wheel in and out at the top or grabbing the spring and doing the same there is a definite movement, could this be a faulty strut or a loose attachment at the top, quite difficult to get to the top on this model.

Drop links are a common cause of rattling/knocking.
Looseness at the top mount is normal when jacked up
