Title: 2003 galaxy tdi auto cutting out then not restarting
Post by: bundy777 on November 25, 2013, 08:47:41 PM
Hi i have a 2003 galaxy tdi automatic that is playing up a bit ,it starts first turn of the key hot or cold but some mornings it is cutting out about 5 minutes after starting( sometimes i pick a friend up for work who live less than a minute from me and have noticed  it happens more often if i sit with the car ticking over waiting for him to come out in the morning)   , it then nearly flattens the battery restarting it again (turning it over for 30 or so seconds) once it is restarted you can switch it off and it will restart instantly , also it is going into a limp mode occasionally when cold although no lights are coming on , if i pull over and restart it you then have full power it very rarely does this when up to running temperature,i have replaced the air mass sensor which made a huge difference as before it was going into limp mode all the time hot or cold i have also taken the egr off and cleaned it with brake cleaner . any suggestions would be much appreciated

Similar fault to tinman (see his post)
Does this cutting out only happen when picking up your friend? are you facing downhill and low on diesel by any chance?

hi it doesnt cut out every morning but seems to always do it if i leave it ticking over soon after starting , i always have at least quarter of a tank and we both live on the flat , i switched it off while waiting for him this morning and no problems with limp mode or cutting out on our 5 mile journey today , when leaving work this evening though it went into limp mode when i went up a small hill less than half a mile from work, i restarted and no problems rest of the way home

The limp mode is probably an overboost boost issue caused by sticking turbo vanes

Get yourself a VCDS cable from ebay and scan your own diagnostics
