Time to polish up some pine draws in a guest room, they gone a bit dull and seem to have lost a bit of colour in places where they are worn.
not being a great woodworker or stainer etc     does anyone know an easy lazy way to do it,   do i just rub the top down with sandpaper and get some clear laquer    or do i need to get colour laquer to restain it to be an even colour,   think its just had furniture spray on it when the wife polishes it.
any help welcome     any better brands than others,   ronseal   etc
thanks

hi martin, :)

are the drawers solid?
if so then as you say if its the stain and top coat thats has worn away then the only way you can make it even again,is to rub the lot down.restain to the colour you want and then either a paste for protection or a varnish of some sorts.ive used coloron on a lot of the furniture ive built with a feeding paste to get the desired patiner.

if they have a large flat top then maybe a belt sander would work,BUT TAKE CARE AS THESE BEASTS ARE BRUTAL.
or a 1/2 sheet sander which is less so and then a detail sander,ALSO make sure you go with the grain because if you dont THE scratches WILL show up when you do the top coat and this will really annoy you, work down the strengths of glass paper right down to flour paper or a wet n dry paper to get the final finish, like everything the more time you take in the preparation the better the results.
watch the edges of the units as these sand down a lot quicker the the tops, and if there moulded you can sand the mould out extremely quickly.

there are all sorts of stains varnishes on the market pay a visit to your local shed and see whats on offer.
bear in mind if this is for the guest rooms work out how much materials cost and include your time for doing it.it may work out more expensive then buying some new units?only you can say which way you want to go.
