WHEEL ET 45 OR 54?

Hi All,

I'm looking to get some 17" alloys for my 2002 Seat Alhambra 1.9 TDI but I'm struggling to get clarity on the correct offset. The Galaxy and Sharan have an ET ranging from 45-59 but the Alhambra has an ET ranging from 33-45, how can this be when they are in essence the same car? Everywhere I've looked online shows the ET as 45 for 17" Alloys but I've seen some Stylance wheels with the ET pictured at 54. I really want some Seat Leon FR wheels on my car but at ET 54 I'm worried they will run on the inner wheel arches. Can anyone help?

Good morning sir. I see you are an Alhamb enthusiast. A very fine choice of car.

Doesn't the ET depend on the width of the wheel rather than its diameter? In any event it's specific to the wheel so you'll find it printed in the wheel itself??

Thank You.

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

I hope that is said in jest? The horror stories from KF go on and on, they are the ones who sent me out in a company car (had no choice to use them) with the nuts done up finger tight.

Anyway, ET43/45 is normal for the Alhambra. The Galaxy and Sharan didn't have the 'big' wheels available earlier on so that's probably why the offset values are shown as different but 17s and 18s are 43/45 to clear everything but even then you need to be careful with the tyre size.

You also need to consider the weight it can handle, the Leon is a pretty small car with a max loaded weight of about 1400kg. The bamma on the other hand starts at 1800Kg and can carry up to about 2400Kg. The Leons wheels are likely not going to be up to the job so cracks from potholes become a real possibility. The tyres will also need to be replaced as the Leon definitely won't come with load rated or XL tyres.

Their reputation precedes them.

I've had trailer wheel bolts overtightened to the point where they sheared off, trailer tyres inflated beyond the maximum pressure stated on the tyre wall, shock absorbers replaced in a way which made the car jump around like a kangaroo and broke the drive shaft and was told "Don't worry it's just bedding in".

Still, it's not all bad. For every 7 one-star review on Trustpilot, there's at least 1 five-star one.  https://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews79201.html

I like this advert, it is very catchy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8TmVpEZq08

I wouldn't trust kwak fit to put a wiper blade on, have more faith in my 8 year old to do a proper job.
