Scuttle bolts - What thread are they?

Anyone know what thread the 3 bolts that hold the scuttle in place are on a mk2 Galaxy? Mine mysterously went missing and despite hoping they would turn up, have not done so!

I've tried normal M6 bolts which seem to be the right diameter, but are not the right thread as they won't turn more than around 1 1/2 turns before they lock up.

I'm not sure this will be much help but if it locks up after a few turns, could this mean that the thread is too tight so maybe a 7mm bolt? Or maybe even a little bigger than that? It surely just be metric so I think it just be a case of trying a few sizes out until you find the right one?

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

I have a feeling it might be M8?

I'm suspecting they might be m6 but with 1.0m pitch rather than the more commonly used 0.75. They seem corser than the normal m6 thread.

Its not M7 or larger as m7 isn't a commonly used size and would I suspect allow the m6 bolt to drop straight through anyway. Its not M5 either as thats far too small (m5 bolt doesn't even touch the thread).

Annoyingly I can't find them on the parts list as sometimes you can identify them from the part number once you do that.

I've ordered some M6 1.0m thread ones now, so will see if that works.

Fingers crossed that works... the only other thing I can think of is maybe try and get some replacement ones from somebody who is breaking a Galaxy maybe

Hi Brian

I've actually got the three bolts out of the Galaxy but to be fair don't think there any special thread as I have lost/misplaced in the past, in the pic only the left hand one is original the other two were just out the odds and ends boxIMG_20220729_132256255.jpg
