Interior lightning not working when opening doors.

Bougt myself another Sharalaxy (3rd by now), this time 2005 Sharan 1.8T. All the other electrics are working ok but interior lights. They light up when I unlock doors, but won't do the same when opening doors afterwards. It works fine when tailgate is opened. And as central locking is using same source as interiour lightning, doors will be locked after 30 seconds unless engine is started. At first glance all the door looms seem ok, all the doors are shown correctly on the dash too. Has anyone ran into similar issue. It bloody cold outside, -20 deg C, so I'd do my homework before rentin a place for the weekend.

Not sure but I think it's normal for the doors to re-lock after 30 seconds if you've not opened the car doors.

It is currently 3c here and the heating bills are astronomical.

I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

I have lots of friends here and very much enjoy talking with you all. Always remember, a motor car is a serious tool and should be treated with respect. Put your safety first, always.

But it is not normal when in I have physically opened the door, at least in my humble opinion

You are right it is not normal to lock doors after 30 seconds if you have opened a door.
As it is same for all doors you can discount wiring looms and door latches unless all 4 have failed. No idea on the circuit as I don't have a drawing but as a guess could it be related to the module on fuse box? Can't remember what it's called though Zee unit,Sam unit, multi timer something like that I think it is?

Most curious. Could it be some sort of faulty relay in said module perhaps?

It relocking after 30 seconds is normal if its not seeing a door open. Thats what I had when the boot didn't see it being opened.

That said, its a Galaxy and the boot wiring is a known problem area. I'd double check those wires just in case something is going on there

Lights should also go off after 10 minutes of the door being left open as well. If they go off much quicker, it might point towards a bad connection in the boot wiring.

The other problematic area besides the door loom is the services 32 joint in the passenger side footwell (lots of red wires twisted together in the loom). This can get corroded when the rear washer leaks. Given your in Estonia presumablely its a LHD vehicle, I can't remember if the wiring swaps sides to keep that likely to be an issue or not, but its been discussed on here before so should be able to check.

I think (will check when I venture outside) that the lighting is done by the pushbutton contact on the door shut, whereas the door open detection is done in the lock itself but may be wrong on that score.

According to TIS the switch on the pillar has 2 pair of contacts- on pair for central module and one pair for dash display. I'll check ELSA also durin christmas vacation. I was just wondering if someone over here has already had that kind of issue.

Confirmed tonight the door swtich on the pillar does do both dash indication and the interior light. Seems also that switch is the one for the door relocking when its not opened after using remote unlock. Car does know which one is open at any point (as the MFD on the dash shows the position) so there must be more than a simple loop around them all.

The central timer pointed to above is a known area for problems, I've seen posts on here about having to replace the fusebox to get indicators working again due to that same module.

I'd still have a good check of the hatch/tailgate/boot wiring in any case though.
