2004 Ford Galaxy 1.9 tdi 130 Ghia

Today, I noticed that the time clock had stopped working but more importantly that on the instrument cluster the trip mileage, MPG, etc would reset itself when I would start the car and also the drivers door would not open with the key fob even though the other doors would open.

Well that's Fords for you.
I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

I have lots of friends here and very much enjoy talking with you all. Always remember, a motor car is a serious tool and should be treated with respect. Put your safety first, always.

First off check the wiring in the door gator for damaged wires.
Splice for services wiring on passenger side under carpet would be my first port of call for other issues. Have a look in ref library for details on both

I'd also suggest you check fuse 19 hasn't blown (least I think it was 19 where I found it would effect both the door locks and instrument cluster, as I pulled it out to stop the car randomly locking and unlocking itself when I had a faulty door lock, and found it caused the cluster to lose memory when ignition was switched off).

The clock may be co-incidence, but they are known to fail (and that may have popped the fuse). Its easy to remove the clock if its the one in the dash, it just pulls out. Suggest if the fuse is blown, disconnect the clock and replace fuse, drive it for a bit to see if it seems ok, if so try reconnecting the clock and see if it goes again, if it does get a new clock (the one from a KA of the same era will fit the dashboard type). If its the type above the mirror, then the KA one won't fit.

Could also be a fault in the door lock, but more likely its broken door wiring.

It's not something to do with a ribbon cable within the instrument cluster itself by any chance? My Ford Focus had a similar problem and that's what it was, it is a well known problem and even featured on BBC WatchDog. But that was a Focus, not sure if the Galaxy was also affected. I suspect as others have said it's more likely to be the door wiring

Given theres faults with different modules I'd suspect wiring or a blown fuse due to wiring (though it seems most of the wiring issues on the galaxy don't seem to blow fuses even when you'd expect they would) or some other issue. Wiring easy to check without throwing any parts at it.

Would be great if it's just a blown fuse, fingers crossed

Just checked all fuses and hey presto its was a fuse number 32 little bugger that had blown. Changed that now everything is working even the clock. What a relief. Thanks everybody for your help much appreciated.

Well, asohotra, let's all be honest, it was our good friend Brian who said it would be the fuse.

Big well done to Brian!! A true pro.

Now can somebody PLEASE check their MAF air flow rate at idle for him, the poor bloke's been waiting for ages and deserves a favour! I'd do it myself but only have a diesel Alhamb and he needs the readings from a petrol.

Thank You
